Three-way Stratification Sampling Design When One of the Stratifying Variables Is Time

چکیده
Bryant, Hartley & Jessen (1960) presented a two-way stratification sampling design when the sample size n is less than the number of strata. Their design was extended to a three-way stratification case by Chaudhary & Kumar (1988), but this design does not take into account serial correlation, which might be present as a result of the presence of a time variable. In this paper, a new sampling procedure is presented for three-way stratification when one of the stratifying variables is time. The purpose of such a design is to take into account serial correlation. The variance of the unweighted estimator of the population mean with respect to a super population model is used as the basis for comparison. Simulation results show that the suggested design is more efficient than the Chaudhary & Kumar (1988) design.

Multi-Way Survey Stratification and Sampling
For some populations there may be two or more stratifying criteria that are desirable in the sample design. Multi-way stratification allows increased precision of estimates of each of the variables whose precision is increased by typical univariate estimators corresponding to singlecriteria designs. The sample need not be allocated to every multi-way population cell induced by a set of single-c...
متن کاملHorvitz-Thompson estimator of population mean under inverse sampling designs
Inverse sampling design is generally considered to be appropriate technique when the population is divided into two subpopulations, one of which contains only few units. In this paper, we derive the Horvitz-Thompson estimator for the population mean under inverse sampling designs, where subpopulation sizes are known. We then introduce an alternative unbiased estimator, corresponding to post-st...
متن کاملOPTIMAL DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE ONE-WAY RIBBED SLABS USING IMPROVED TIME EVOLUTIONARY OPTIMIZATION
In this paper, a new robust metaheuristic optimization algorithm called improved time evolutionary optimization (ITEO) is applied to design reinforced concrete one-way ribbed slabs. Geometric and strength characteristics of concrete slabs are considered as design variables. The optimal design is such that in addition to achieving the minimum cost, all design constraints are satisfied under Amer...
متن کاملOn the Simple Inverse Sampling with Replacement
In this paper we derive some unbiased estimators of the population mean under simple inverse sampling with replacement, using the class of Hansen-Hurwitz and Horvitz-Thompson type estimators and the post-stratification approach. We also compare the efficiency of resulting estimators together with Murthy's estimator. We show that in despite of general belief, the strategy consisting of inverse s...
متن کاملSample surveying to estimate the mean of a heterogeneous surface: reducing the error variance through zoning
One of the major sources of uncertainty associated with geographical data in GIS arises when they are the outcome of a sampling process. It is well known that when sampling from a spatially autocorrelated homogeneous surface, stratification reduces the error variance of the estimator of the population mean. In this study, we evaluate the efficiency of different spatial sampling strategies when ...
